(15:35) Not to make light of Marina's condition, but has she tried any actual scientifically based treatments? All of the things she mentioned aren't exactly what you would call legit. Sure, some people might get some psychosomatic benefits from things such as acupressure and "detoxing", but there is no actual proof that these kind of things actually work on a fundamental level. (On the contrary, they have all been proved to have no effect.) Pretty much all of them fall under the "pretending I'm not sick" category. :/ I'm not sure who's diagnosing her with "collapsing veins" either, but based on all of the things she's tried I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone who is some sort of "naturalist" or some other form of "alternative" medicine "doctor". Again, I'm not accusing her of not having problems. But, it doesn't really help her case for kratom if she's including it amongst these other methods which are arguably at their worst scams and at best givers of false hope.

I’ve been having some trouble replying to this because I think you’ve made a genuinely good point about gauging how her anecdotes play against potential other treatments. Also, I didn’t listen to this episode in part due to this comment because my tolerance for pseudo science is limited so thanks (?).

This is the most incredibly polite and thoughtful comment string maybe ever. Thanks for restoring my faith that some people on the internet actually want to have constructive discussions that explore ideas deeply and allow people to learn from each other's perspectives. It's not what I'm paying for, but it's a huge perk!
