Khadala, the Pit City [40x40] (Patreon)

Khadala is what remains of an old abandoned city built in the walls of a giant pit, so deep that the bottom is lost in darkness.

The small wooden cabins attached to the walls are connected by unstable bridges and the old elevator that once served as a way to reach the bottom of the pit still stands, but it is in disrepair and may take weeks to fix.

Adventurers explore Khadala in search of treasure and knowledge. Some say that there are valuable artifacts hidden in the depths of the pit, others say that there you can find the true to its origin. It maybe was created by a powerful magical spell gone wrong or an ancient war between gods. Or maybe it is a portal to another realm or plane.

No one has ever come back to tell about it, and those who tried to reach the bottom, never found it. Maybe that elevator was only another try to reach the base or part of the now destroyed city.

Plot Hooks:

• Someone hires the party to retrieve a valuable heirloom. The artifact is located at the very bottom of the pit or halfway through and the only way to reach it is by repairing the old elevator.
• The party is hired to explore the city and uncover the secrets of a lost civilization.
• A powerful artifact is hidden somewhere in Khadala, and several factions want to control it.
• A strange cult has taken up residence in Khadala, worshipping the darkness that lurks in the depths of the pit. The cultists have been known to kidnap travelers and sacrifice them in rituals.
• The old elevator in Khadala is said to be haunted by the spirits of those who have perished in the pit. When the party attempts to repair the elevator, they find themselves surrounded by spirits determined to drag them down into the darkness.
