Sasha and the Zoo (Patreon)
Content
One thing I've always loved about my wife is her almost childlike interest of animals, she loves it when we spot squirrels or rabbits in the park and always stops to smile and wave at dogs that people are walking, she absolutely loves dogs and cats and a whole host of wildlife.
Wildlife and animals are not really a thing in China, hear me out, the big cities of China are almost completely devoid of animal life, it's bizarre but as soon as you cross the border from Hong Kong into Shenzhen you'll notice that there are no birds, no squirrels or any other type of wild animals other than very hard surviving rats etc that you'll occasionally see scurrying to and from the sewers. It's understandable for a few reasons, firstly birds like pigeons are actually eaten in China with pigeon restaurants being quite common, also in recent history due to mass starvation almost anything that moved was eaten and it's going to take a very long time if at all for those species to recover, there were also ridiculous policies by Mao to eradicate sparrows and whatnot that messed up the natural order of things further... without going on about this for too long, wild animals are in short supply and although there are some large zoos and safari parks in China, they're such a mission to go to, it's difficult to explain but suffice it to say it's never a pleasant experience.
Enter the San Diego Zoo!
I took Sasha to the San Diego Zoo on her first trip to the United States back in 2016 and she regularly asks me to take her there for a visit, it's a long drive from LA but always worth is as she makes a whole day of it, and insists on visiting her favourite animals, even now that she's massively pregnant she still enjoys visiting the zoo.
Thank you all for making this all possible, without your support, we would never have had this opportunity.
- Stay Awesome!
