When will domestic Chinese companies learn that it’s okay to cut corners and make substandard goods as long as they don’t affect people’s health! The public here is very forgiving of shoddy quality goods but if anything affects the health of their Children or families then forgiveness will never be an option.... Look at the milk powder (infant formula) scandal from a decade ago, still people refuse to buy locally produced infant formula and now confidence in locally made vaccines has once again shattered (yes this isn’t the first vaccine scandal).... We will cover this topic on ADVChina soon but I want to make sure I get all the facts straight first!

Unlike Chinese vaccines...

- Stay Awesome!

SerpentZA

The milk powder / infant formula thing is still huge here in Melbourne Australia for Chinese immigrants. I visited a pharmacy in a suburb which has a very high density of Chinese immigrants (mostly students), which is fine. I was staggered at the number of boxes of formula just stacked next to the registers. They don't even bother taking the cans out of the boxes and putting them on shelves. They just dump all the boxes right next to the register. At a quick estimate, I'd say there were at least 50 boxes there. If there's 12 cans in each box (another guess), that's 600 cans. They limit sales to 2 cans at a time per person, but if someone can bring in 4 or 5 friends with them, and go through the register multiple times, that ads up. Also I wouldn't be surprised if these pharmacies aren't adhering to the limits. Not that I have anything against Chinese kids getting decent quality formula, but it shouldn't be this way. It's not fair on anyone. It's become a huge black market.

Might have to do with their systems, which I hope are evolving with their general knowledge. I hope the Chinese have scholars analyzing all parts of the West, and not just how to create and sell products. I give China a pass for now though. China is in transition, so its quality control is also. hope they have vibrant social networks. All countries have to learn the lessons(Japan wasn’t always known for quality). If a country only adopts the ideas of capitalism and consumerism, but doesn’t look at the ideas that were reactions to those ideas(unions, consumer protection laws, social/political interest groups, etc), it will have to relive them to learn those lessons all over again, which can take a long struggle. How many Americans know that the 40 hour work week or child labor laws were the result of unions, not political initiative?
