My time in Japan is sadly coming to an end... As I wait for the train to the airport I can’t help but describe my feelings as a bit of a mixture of melancholy sprinkled with a little joy.

As a young man I was fascinated with Japanese culture, and truth be told it is the reason I ended up in China having the mad adventures I have had up till now and certainly will in the future. Having met with an old friend living here who like me left South Africa around the same time as I did has given me some insight as to what my life could have been like if I had succeeded in coming to Japan rather than China and it gave me a lot to think about.

You see China is an adventure, a wild and tumultuous place, constantly growing through trial and error, an unstoppable mess of chaos charging forward and breaking things along the way without care, it is exciting to have been part of what I consider the best and most exciting years of China’s growth which in all honesty has started to slow down quite significantly recently.

There are things which are glaringly missing from modern Chinese society and culture and visiting a developed country like Japan literally slaps you in the face and reminds you of those key missing ingredients... And reminds me of why I was attracted to Asia and Asian culture in the first place, some of those ingredients are 1) Consideration/compassion and 2) Order/Pride in ones work

I will go into these in more detail with proper examples in upcoming videos but suffice it to say I will be missing those very important societal pillars greatly as I cross the border back into mainland China, there are things about China that I miss too and look forward to as I return but all in all I wish my stay in Japan could have been a longer one.

On a positive note! I have shot two full feature videos and 4 vlogs here in Japan and can’t wait to share them with you! There is a lot about my past in South Africa and I dare say some of it might surprise you.

- Stay Awesome

I so know your feeling as you leave. I have been to Japan 3 times and stayed one month each time. These trips were to visit my son who was a teacher there. I feel in love with Japan on my first visit and by my 3rd was able to see more of Japan’s problem areas, but never the less stay in love with her! I will be visiting China for the first time in Sept, as my son now lives there, and although my son assured me I will have a shock wave coming, I say nah as I have already been their through your vlogs LOL! I’m sure i will have an awesome time as I thrive on adventure and uniqueness! Stay awesome Winston!
