I have been getting a lot of requests to talk about the troubles in South Africa, the land grabs and awful farm attacks and the general state of things there at the moment. Even though I live in China, the situation in South Africa affects me deeply as my parents, friends and family still live there and yes, I have had friends murdered and my parents who had nothing and worked their entire lives to afford to buy a small farm to retire on (they bought it a few years before I left for China) have now been forced to abandon their plans of retirement since it is too dangerous for them to even visit their own farm and they cannot sell is since no one will buy a piece of land that will just be stolen by the state in any case.

I avoid politics in my videos for the very reason that it's divisive and no matter what I say on the matter I'll be the target of armchair politicians and hate all round.

I do feel very strongly about this and I can't stand the international ignorance about the situation there but at the same time I do understand it.

Do you think it would negatively affect my YouTube channel? Should I make the video or should I leave it alone.

Your input will be greatly appreciated

Likes and comments are double usual for this post. This establishes significant overlap of interest. As much as I’d like to have him visit the USA again so I can finally meet him, we should see a SA miniseries from Winston. I’m one of those with a keen interest in finding windows into SA as I look for windows into China. I trust Winston and he actually has some very close ties with the subject(had NO IDEA Winston’s relatives were attached to the farmer issue). Here in the USA the media suppresses the farmer issue because they supported divestment, and by default the ANC, for many years. It’s difficult for tech companies to operate in that chaos too. Who knows Winston may save a life or two by giving testimony to the subject.

I can’t see a downside btw. I don’t see China having such an interest in the SA power structure that they crack down on China bloggers who happen to say something critical of SA, even though China has a growing interest in Africa.
