Whew! Okay, 2024 is officially underway, and if you've read the end of my 2023 Year in Review, I've already detailed my next video plans there. So let's check in on all of them and see how they're doing!

The Joy of Nintendo DSi/3DS Camera & Sound

It's here! It's out! I really like how it turned out! And it took less than a month after the last video!! Ignore the months of scriptwriting beforehand, but yes, hopefully the next core videos I'll be working on (a.k.a. the rest of the video topic ideas revealed in the June 2023 Patreon poll) will take less time, and I have some small video ideas and Things of Interest subjects planned between those too! More on that in a bit.

And for those in the Expansion Pack tier who've missed it, I currently have bonus recording outtakes available here as well!

Nintendo Live / Pop-Up Store in Hong Kong

As of this report going live, the editing for the Nintendo Live / Pop-Up Store Hong Kong video is 90% done! A preview is already up for Expansion Pack patrons, but I hope to have it out on early access before Chinese New Year here!

I'm not sure how many people here have been to one of the official Nintendo stores, especially the one in New York,

Every Game I Beat in 2023

And yet another update: I've finally finished writing about all 34 games that are part of my end-of-year games review! Which means after the Nintendo Live & Pop-Up Store video is done, I can move on directly to recording voiceovers and footage for this one!

It might take a little while due to its length, optimistically it'd be great to have it out by the end of February, but I do also have other ideas for smaller video ideas in the meantime I can work on in between recording sessions, which I will now share some of in...

Upcoming plans for the first few months!

Back in the 2023 Year in Review post, I already shared a general outline of the first few planned videos of 2024. To recap, that's:

  • The Joy of Nintendo DSi/3DS Camera & Sound (now out!)
  • Nintendo Live / Pop-Up Store Hong Kong (almost done!)
  • Every Game I Beat in 2023 (scriptwriting finished!)
  • A talk about my trip to Japan on the Plus channel (recording not yet started)

With all the in-production scripted stuff being halfway done, there are a few small video ideas I am tossing around before I continue work on the next big core video. I am aiming to have at least one scripted video out every month till April, so aside from the stuff I've already revealed, here's some other ideas being considered!

The Nintendo Game Processor RAM Cartridge

In terms of obscure Nintendo content, this is probably the bottom of the barrel.

...explaining this is going to take a while, but in short, this is a cartridge for a lost Super Famicom devkit used in Japanese schools! Just to curb expectations a bit, this cartridge is empty for unfortunate reasons, but that doesn't mean it won't make a neat Things of Interest video!

If you can't wait for the video on it though and want a crash course on what exactly this thing is, LuigiBlood's site on the Nintendo Game Processor is a very valuable resource!

...Nintendo trivia?

Hey remember that one time I did a parody of a top 10 video using pointless but actually obscure Nintendo trivia as an April Fools joke

Well, there's quite a bit more useless trivia where that came from. Like I said, some facts didn't make the cut, and I've also occasionally posted some of them on Twitter here and there as well.

So the thought is...why not make this a regular series?

"Useless Nintendo Trivia" is a work-in-progress planned series for the channel, with each episode being around 8-10 minutes long. It will simply be a collage of some of the most pointless and trivial Nintendo facts I have lying around. Like the fact that the 3DS came in two separate black & white colors, or the ending screen of Mario 64 being re-rendered for the European release! These are not going to be your average "Mario 2 is Doki Doki Panic" trivia videos, and I'm interested to see how deep this can possibly get.

Right now, I have a list of possible trivia entries I've been keeping track of, and it currently sits at 53 facts, which is probably enough for a couple episodes that should be relatively easy to make and put together for the channel every now and then! And yes, I will gladly take fact suggestions on Patreon and Discord. ;) So eventually, you'll probably see this series finally put into motion!

And after the videos I mentioned above are done, I'll move on to the rest of the core video topics I talked about in the poll from last June. (Oh god that was in June?!) But yes, there should be enough stuff on the schedule right now to basically last the first half of the year if I had to guess! I don't want to bite off more than I can chew at the moment.

Plus videos

Last month on Akfamilyhome Plus, I took an impromptu look at Joy-Con alternatives I found at a flea market! And those Joy-Con are actually still working pretty well so far, even if there hasn't been a recent Switch release that let me put them through their paces.

With me being focused on main channel production lately, I'm aware the frequency of bonus videos has decreased recently, but so far I think having doing a bonus Patreon video right after a main channel release would probably be a decent way of tackling things. (unless I end up taking more time on main channel videos, but I have a decent plan going so let's not worry about that haha)

And since the Nintendo Live & Pop-Up Store video is almost out, the next Patreon bonus video is gonna be an interesting one...

This is a Nintendo Ten Billion Barrel from 1980, on loan from a friend of mine! Will I, a person who does not know how to solve Rubik's Cubes, be able to deal with one of these? Find out next time on the Plus channel!

And that's it for this month's report! A lot of plans are already solidly in place for these first few months of the year, but I'll talk about any new developments when we get there in the future! Thank you all for watching and supporting!

With that, I will now leave you with this recent pickup.

...no, I don't know how I managed this either.
