HiTop, or Alex Hunter, or HackTop discusses My Adventures with Superman, Superman & Lois, Smallville, Superman (1978), as well as many other adaptations of Superman. All with the point of saying that The Best Superman Stories Share One Thing, the Best Superman Stories are Love Stories, he, Superman is a Love Story. I think that’s what separates the versions of the character we tend to connect to, and the versions that we find polarizing. To me, it’s always been about Clark Kent, and, perhaps even more importantly, Lois Lane. The adaptations that I tend to love, are always the adaptations where that love is front and center. Richard Donner, Christopher Reeve Superman and Margot Kidder Lois Lane perhaps personify this the best. The versions that fall flat, to no fault of Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, are the ones where that love story is in service of the action, world, and connected DC Extended Universe (DCEU) rather than the other way around.
