A u g h. So, thankfully... there was only a gap of a few weeks between this episode and the beginning of season 5... but it was still an aggravating wait that sent the fanbase into a theorizing frenzy. (Because, like you, we Also very swiftly noticed that Lars did not jump off the ship.) I thought it was super creative how the show crew tied in a VERY old plot thread (all the way from season 1) to all this madness. With how much time has passed since then- easily months and months on an in-universe scale- I like to imagine that Peridot's old report got caught in some sort of upper administration red tape hell before anyone got sent out to deal with it, ahahah. The other early season callback is a kinda funny one- Jamie's "no, Garnet- I've moved on, I swear!" cry as Garnet is trying to punch the Topaz fusion and poor Jamie accidentally gets moved into range. That always makes me giggle, some much needed humor in an otherwise SUPER tense scene. Steven's sacrifice here h u r t s. I understand why he thinks this is the only path forward for the safety of Earth and all his friends, but it's so painful to see him go through with it when in the most ideal world he shouldn't have to make up for any of his mother's decisions in the first place. Like damn. Imagine being FOURTEEN YEARS OLD and turning yourself in to the enemy for a war crime you didn't even personally commit. Insane stuff.

I don't think it was red tape. It was only in "That Will Be All" that Yellow told Blue that they could collect more humans of that was what she wanted. Having done that, she looked at her resources, saw an old report that conveniently included a handy list of humans, and dispatched Aquamarine and the two Topazes to take care of collecting them.

Just gonna say.... my mind was blown when they revealed why Aquamarine and Topaz were kidnapping Steven's friends, i had completely forgotten about that first Conversation Steven and Peridot had in season 1.... it was like.... everything clicked in an instant and my body reacted with slight euphoria at the sudden surge of memories, it was amazing xddd.
