If I recall (and understood properly), Sony needs to keep using the Spider-Man property they own, or else Disney has a case to regain complete ownership. That's why they put so little effort in their Spider-Man-related movies. They don't care about them, only wanting to stick it to Disney so they can profit off the real money-maker (Spider-Man himself through the good MCU Spider-Man, and the Spider-Man video games).
