After people like Trump's recent actions, such as the highly publicized 'hydra' lawsuits which were proved in court to be baseless after the last election, people in America have lost their faith in the legal system. There's a general perception that the rich can get away with anything by hiring enough expensive lawyers to work the system for them so they either get away scot free or end up with only relatively minor punishments, while at the same time poor people get metaphorically crucified for even the most minor of offense, whether they're guilty of them or not. Meanwhile there are too many "experts" telling the people things which are "true" that have no evidence of that "truth", but which are being presented in such a way that reinforces their own prejudices and assumptions. People then become invested in protecting these "truths" so their world views don't get shattered.
