According to Bram Stoker, a vampire can be out in sunlight but it doesn't quite look real, and at high noon the vampire looks truly two dimensional. There is nothing in the book about vampires bursting into flame.

How about that other good Bruce Willis movie, Surrogates? As a vampire, Steve could go to work in his surrogate, then party and hunt at night. Vampires are oppressed, obviously.
