Well, if I recall correctly the point of the four houses was to organize the students by their "natural" inclinations and affinities, so that it was easier to teach larger groups using similar methods for each. For example, Griffindors were taught things in a manner that presented a challenge to be overcome, while slytherins were taught in ways that fed their more ambitious tendencies and made them WANT to achieve more. A "lone wolf" house would only really work in that methodology for those students who don't fit any of the four. The students who need considerable personal training that requires methods none of the other four houses use.
