Dolph's Present (Patreon)

A little late for Christmas, but better late than never! I've been obsessed with some fortnite characters lately so I hope you don't mind some indulgence with them 🥴

NOTES:
Phew it is finally done, I took my time with it because I wanted to experiment and kind of apply some knowledge I gained out of some color studies I did.
I wanted the drawing to be illuminated by a warm light right above Dolph, the most difficult part was getting the colors and values right, the color studies I did previously definitely helped but there are gaps in my knowledge. Embrace de-saturated colors, they make the whole image work.
Really tiny hue and value changes help SO MUCH in making things look 3D and palpable.

I like doing fluids kinda cartoonish (white trails, drawn drops) but doing them that way in a drawing with "realistic" lighting like this looked off; so I had to use other techniques to make them fit, basically make fluids a bit realistic.

About motion blur, I LOVE how Otternito uses it to suggest movement and give the drawing some necessary movement, so props to him for the choice of using motion blur on these drawings. If you want to know how I did it: I duplicated the base layer and used motion blur effect on the copy, then I erased the areas that didn't need the blur and placed the blurred layer on top of the base layer.

So yeah that's pretty much it, I think I learnt quite a bit out of this drawing, and the final result of the experiment is alright :P
