So how would this pairing come about? Well, based off Doggy's bio in Cookie Volume 3, we know that he used to travel all over the world doing all sorts of things, so it's not unreasonable to believe that in this AU, Doggy stumbled upon "Grizzly Valley" where Kitsune & Buni takes place primarily (for now anyway) and heard about the Twin-Tail Cafe. He'd probably be really hungry at this point, so of coursed he'd want to check it out.

That would lead to him meeting Onsune! Perhaps the two would hit it off due to Doggy's love of various foods and Onsune's love of cooking such a wide variety of foods. Just as Doggy decided to settle down on Star Island, he might think to rest in the valley, which means he could become a reoccurring customer for the cafe and spend more time with Onsune.

Since Doggy becomes such a frequent visitor, Onsune is able to fill the loneliness she felt prior to Kitsune & Buni Volume 2 and maybe they start dating from there before making it official a few years later.

That does mean that Kitsune probably wouldn’t have as much of a friendship with Onsune in this AU, Oni probably wouldn’t go to the cafe much either due to Kitsune & Buni not knowing her all that well, as well as certain chapters/events playing out differently in Treat-Land due to Doggy's absence (no need to re-deliver everyone's mail in Chapter 10 for example)
