At some point artist still have to take some accountability…I’m 34 and my whole existence artist have been screaming “they robbing us cuz we don’t have the information”. If today ANY artist regardless of age is not doing the proper research and at least educating themselves on basic BUSINESS principles and LEARNING TO READ AND UNDERSTAND contract lingo is just unacceptable. In 2022 no one should act as though they’re oblivious to the predatory nature of the industry. That is just choosing ignorance. Artist have to be more than just artists, they have to acknowledge and embrace the business component and prepare themselves. At the end of the day a lot of artists need to honestly ask themselves if they’re trying to be famous, make music,trying to make money or all of the above.

What the music industry needs is innovative business models that address the issue of someone owning the artist’s masters. It is possible to give a good deal financially and own the persons masters.. record labels can Give up everything else (publishing, likenesses etc) and give point marks to album sales, ticket sales and merch (from/for album). Once the numbers are reached the artist can/should renegotiation the contract and also after the deal is over if every goal has been achieved then the artist should be able to buy their masters back. And not for no off the wall number.
