Since you mentioned a name from the credits in this - I rewatched the series with my housemate last year and was like 'who is Cara Buono Buono??!' since she gets top billing with the core party members - she's Mike's mom. She has a bit more to do in the first season 1, with Mike and Nancy being more or less main characters, whereas the show becomes more of an ensemble as it goes on, and we also see her visit Joyce. I presumed then that she had a really good agent who just negotiated top billing for her in subsequent seasons, even if her involvement lessened. And that's probably the case...but because she also had her own promo poster, alongside all the kids in season 4, some fans theorise that she has some link to the plot and the upside down yet to be revealed. I'm leaning towards it all just being a result of a good agent personally, but it's fun to think about the theory, even if I don't think it's true

You questioning the palm cutting more than once made me curious and so I googled it. Apparently it's because it's one of the easiest wounds to fake. For blood, a packet can be easily hidden in the hand or apparatus like tubing can be hidden by sleeves and in reference to depicting cuts on the hand specifically it's easier fake a cut on the palm close ups than it would be for the back of the hand or on the fingers. But also it's just more dramatic looking than most others parts of the body you could cut.
