That scene with Syd at the beach mirrors a scene of Carmy in season 1 episode 3. He starts and ends his day standing on the beach. He even has a similar cap on. It's the episode where Syd says she just needs Carmy to listen to her for this to work, so it's interesting to see a scene that's so similar at a time when Carmy isn't listening to her. And then seeing Syd dropping off food for Sugar and Pete, knowing that Sugar likes lasagne with burnt corners. It's incredibly kind, but it also highlights Carmy's absence. I absolutely think he cares about his family, but on his one day off he's still looking through books for inspiration instead of spending time with them. Sugar sends the picture of the baby to her mom, not Carmy. What he's looking at is the prayer card he puts on the dresser, it's from Mikey's funeral (we see the same one in the kitchen and on Richie's mirror). I'm guessing the last time he wore the suit that's he's wearing to Ever's funeral meal was when he went to the church for Mikey's funeral but didn't go into the church. Thanks for getting this out so fast. The next episode is maybe my favourite of the season, so very interested to see your take on it.
