I feel like Carmy and Marcus are both trying to bury themselves in work, in order to forget about their personal traumas. I'm sure many of us can relate.

I Am Not Chamari

I liked what you said about last episode in terms of Carmy cycling through all that he's been through to figure out how to keep going and to, more generally, find more meaning in this profession he chose. I think because he feels as if he let everybody down, that he's doubling down on setting the tone and being the leader he thinks he needs to be. He's completely focused on excellence and with his experience, he's more or less saying he is the sole driving force to take them there, (which was also kind of reinforced by Marcus, but it makes total sense in the context he is working from) but in this rigid thinking, you are bound to leave people behind. What sucks is that Carmy is the only one that has that experience so he's going to continue to push it because he "knows" what makes a great restaurant. And I'm not doubting that he does - obviously he's extraordinarily talented and skilled and totally up to snuff, but he's also sort of turning this into a bit of a dictatorship and I don't think he's realizing it.
