This episode was weirdly sincere to me. I think the common reaction to Mai telling her sister that she hated her would be seen pretty surface level, but i think these feelings of constantly being pitted against each other accumulate and are a lot deeper than just an 'i hate you'.a

I also think Mai most likely said it to take away from the guilt of her sister in the situation. There must be immense guilt thinking about the fact that you don't really feel that kind of expected love for your sister, so that was nice to see as well.

ALSO why does Sakuta always do the opposite of what he's told, although, I think Mai told him that knowing he would you know? A way of saying, help me fix it with her without really saying it out loud you know?
