They’re continuing on with their suicide mission they were assigned, so just going until they eventually get wiped. So whilst not dead, Lena now has no idea of what’ll happen to them because the connection for the para-raid is limited. Though I think that’s a setting the republic set for them.

The Spearhead squadron went beyond the communication range of the Para-raid system. They will continue their suicide mission in the area beyond what the Republic of San Magnolia can effectively monitor. The area the Republic can monitor is vastly smaller than the area the Legion controls. The Spearhead squadron said goodbye to Lena since she will no longer be able to speak with them, nor they her. For the 86, even though they are in Legion territory, they are no longer under the thumb of the Republic, since they are now beyond the border of District 86. Therefore, they are free to decide their own lives in the time they have left. There's no one to tell them what to do anymore (aside from an absurd number of Legion everywhere). On Lena's side, she is aware that the survival rate beyond District 86 is essentially zero. Those that leave never return. From her point of view, they may as well have died right then and she just lost five friends.
