I will say, Jinshi and Maomao are not related. Jishi was left as the previous Emperor's son because his mom thought Jinshi would have a better life as the son of the previous Emperor and the Empress-Dowager, then he would as the son of the current Emperor and a concubine. That's really all it is.

From what I understand, Ah-Duo chose to swap the babies because she felt that the empress's son woul receive better care, as she saw when Luomen (Maomao's foster dad) was forced to help the empress's childbirth before being allowed to tend to Ah-Duo.
