New month, same Patreon. (Patreon)

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to write a post like this again, but Patreon continues to stifle adult content creators and shaft us out of our hard-earned pledges. In one day, our pledges have dropped by over $200 due to Patreon's shoddy handling of adult content payments. Every 18+ creator I've spoken to today has likewise seen their declined payments reach upwards of 20-30%. Patreon even explicitly stated in an email today that this issue is only affecting adult content creators. Go figure.

If you're unfamiliar with what's been going on, here's the TL;DR: Patreon recently switched their payment processor for adult content creators from the US to the UK, without informing creators OR patrons of the change until much later, resulting in a massive wave of false fraud-detection that cost most adult content creators 20-30% of our earnings for the past two months.

I've managed to get a few more details from other creators: it seems that American Express and pre-paid cards may no longer be accepted for your pledge. If you use one of these cards, I would implore you to try other payment options if you have any. If you don't have another card, try linking your current card to a PayPal account and use the PayPal account to make your pledge. You can also try simply deleting your pledge and re-pledging, as that has fixed the problem for some patrons. I must once again apologize for the hassle, but Patreon leaves us no choice but to try and fix this ourselves.

In the meantime, I and many other NSFW creators will continue to explore alternatives to Patreon, as our project and many others simply won't be able to exist if Patreon doesn't change its attitude toward adult content soon.
