Hey everyone! Here are the tabs, backing track and MIDI file for EDGE OF DEATH from Chrono Cross!

Rhythms:

Style - technical, melodic

Difficulty - 3/5

The real trick here is that main riff. Everything else is pretty straight forward for the most part! That main riff though can be pretty tough. It involves some stretching when you go for those climbing notes; as well as the technical aspect on the picking with that string muting. However it's SUCH a fun riff to play once you get it down. I'd highly recommend taking it slow and building up the speed! The following riffs after that are super straight forward and a TON of fun to play. The pre-chorus section in particular is a really melodic section that's very satisfying to play (although it does get pretty stretchy on the fretting hand as well)

Leads:

Style - percussive, melodic

Difficulty - 4/5

Our leads on this song are pretty challenging! First and foremost, that little flourish on the main riff is so insanely hard that I almost want to label it as basically impossible to play. I managed to get it to sound good but it took like a hundred attempts haha. But I'd love to see if someone out there can play it and maybe even find a more realistic way to pull it off rather than the insane tapping that I did!

But moving on, we have our main melody during the verse that's a ton of fun! It's very melodic but also percussive at the same time which is a theme with the leads on this piece. The pre-chorus is the same where you're utilizing ghost notes to really bring out the attack on the lead parts. All of these sections are SO friggen fun to play and I'd highly recommend learning them! Then lastly we tail it off with some dissonant ringing out notes moving up and down that sounds beautifully spooky and is really fun to play as well

I hope you enjoy learning some of these riffs and licks. Let me know if you have any questions either on here or discord.

Rock on!

~ Jack
