Hey guys! Here are the tabs, backing track, and MIDI file for my metal cover of the Halo Theme!

Rhythms:

Style - triplet feel, palm muting, odd picking patterns

Difficulty - 2/5

Our rhythms are definitely focused on some right hand picking here where our fretting hand has a slightly easier job here.

We begin with some blistering fast alternate picking on the build up and then we go into our main riff. The main riff is super easy and I think it's a riff that everyone should learn as it's an iconic VGM riff and it translates to guitar in such a fun way. Take this slow if you're a newer player but you totally got this!

Our chorus riff is where things get a tad crazier. Our fretting hand is doing some hammer ons and pull offs here and we're traveling up and own the fret board a bit. Take this part slow!

For our second verse, we're taking everything we just did but moving it up 2 frets to the key of F#. Not much different here otherwise!

Now we have our break, where we're busting out some really precise and odd picking for that progressive metal feel. This will put your picking hand to the test so take this slow if you're new to alternate palm muted picking.

And lastly, we end dour breakdown with some big open chords that we're ringing out.

Leads:

Style - sliding, odd shapes

Difficulty - 4/5

Our leads here are significantly more difficult than our rhythms. The melodies here are pretty quick and take you on some wild shapes.

We begin with an easy lick though, the choir melody in the intro of the theme where it's a very tasty E minor phrase.

Let's jump to our verse where it really takes off. We do that iconic string melody which features some traveling slides and some layering lead guitars. The trick here are the slides for sure.

Then lastly we end our verse with that odd timing 3 on 4 polyrhythm lead part. This is more of am muscle memory thing which you can totally get if you practice this repetitively.

Then after that, we go into our break where we're tremolo picking the choir part at blistering fast picking speeds.

And ending the song, we're just showing off with some very fast E minor sweep picking and tapping!

And that's it! I hope you have fun learning some of these riffs and licks. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up in a DM on here or on Discord.

Thanks and rock on!

~ Jack
