Hey everyone! Here is the fully beefy completed video of my metal cover of Final Fantasy 14's HARD TO MISS theme requested by esyphelon!
I was immediately stoked when I heard that this was a theme that was requested. The original theme has such a great epic atmosphere to it and it features heavily orchestral dynamics that I knew immediately would be so sick when translated into metal.
My objective here was to keep the orchestral elements in tact but add some crushing riffs under it to bring it into the metal genre that we all love.
Achieving this goal meant that I ended up doing some really cool unique things to the orchestral elements of the arrangement that I normally never do. I was experimenting with a whole new string patch that I would end up CRANKING in the mix so it still feels like the original and I could hopefully blend it in with the rhythm guitars to make it this wall-of-sound. Alongside that, though, I couldn't help myself and I felt that I wanted to go the extra mile and add in a choir as well to take it one step further. I feel like the choir paired with the strings just makes it such an epic journey of an arrangement.
Guitar wise, I felt that I wanted to add in a bit of original parts in there to compliment the heavily orchestral original parts to make it flow a bit more dynamically. I think this ended up being super awesome and you can hear how the orchestral elements die out mid-song and it turns into a crushing riff fest. That was definitely my objective there!
