Hey guys! Here is the completed video for my metal cover of Super Metroid's RIDLEYS THEME!

So I'm sure it's totally obvious what sparked my inspiration for doing this theme haha. But just in case, I was watching E3 and Nintendo had just announced that Ridley was going to be in the new Super Smash Bros. for Switch and I absolutely lost it haha. It was such a hype announcement and I was so glad I got to see it live.

Literally like 3 minutes later I closed out of the arrangement I was already almost finished with (which will be coming out later) and instantly started working on Ridley's theme.

This theme is extremely near and dear to me being such a huge fan of Super Metroid and the entire franchise as a whole. I'm sure some of you know but some may not know that I actually was a part of a metal cover of Ridley's theme a while back that was arranged by my good friend Ro Panuganti which you can find on my channel. We were super proud of this theme and we still are to this day. That being said, I've really been itching to take on an arrangement of it in my own style and do things a little differently.

So when this announcement happened I was instantly just like "OK well here we go then" haha.

One of my favorite things about this theme musically is just how the main motif is in 5/4 which gives this huge rhythmic twist to everything. I'm super stoked on the drum beat that I came up with for it having tried out a lot of different ideas. I love trying to find groove in 5 which is definitely not as easy as more straight forward time signatures.

Another thing I love about the original theme is how the main melody of the motif has some super unique harmonizations on the main notes. Like the main melody goes 1, 1, 2, 7, 1,  1, 2, 7, 1  right? But on top of that they harmonize it not only a 5th but also a 4th? It gives it this dense and super video gamey sound that has always intrigued me a lot and made me want to try stuff like that in my own compositions. Koji Kondo does stuff like this a lot in his boss themes.

Overall I had such a blast putting this together and I spent so much time in the mixing process to try and just get it absolutely slaying. I made so many revisions to the mix that I was starting to actually lose my mind. so I decided to stop and let this be the final mix. I'm super happy with it thankfully.

Hope you guys enjoy it and thanks so much for your amazing support! Let me know what you think!!

Let's dive into this iconic theme for our boy RIDLEY WHOS IN SMASH ULTIMATE WHATT!? I was so stoked to find out Ridley was finally included in Smash as I legitimately never thought that would actually happen haha. Upon realizing it, I immediately was inspired to take on this amazing theme that I've loved since first playing Super Metroid many years ago. As some of you may know, there's actually another version of this theme on my channel that was arranged by my good friend Ro Panuganti and I was jamming alongside him on it! The video is a few years old so it's wayy down there in my videos list. But this version of the theme is the first time I've personally attempted an arrangement of the theme and I'm stoked that both of our versions ended up sounding totally unique from eachother. That's one of my favorite things about the VGM community is how we can all turn a theme into our own style. I wanted to just come out the gate thrashing as hard as I could and never really letting up haha. It needed to feel like the ultimate metal boss fight theme for our boy Ridley! One of my favorite parts about this theme is how the main motif has so many layers of notes ontop of it. It's harmonized in 5ths but it also has a 4th on top as well so every note is like Root to 4th to 5th giving it this super video-gamey sound. I take so much influence from small details like that in my own music and it's just such a cool flavor to a basic idea such as that main motif. Overall I had such a blast arranging this iconic theme and one of my favorite boss fight themes of all time.
