Hey guys! Here are the tabs, backing track, and MIDI file for my cover of Mega Man 9's "Flash in the Dark" theme requested by my man Pepowned!

We have some relatively simple and SOO sick riffs and licks in here for all skill levels to jam on!

Rhythms:

Style - off-beat bouncy rhythms, ringing out notes

Difficulty - 2/5

Our rhythms are technically very simple but have some interesting challenges for all skill levels. This entire arrangement has this off-beat vibe to it which gives it this really awesome driving feel. However, I think this might be a bit challenging to some which is all the more reason to dive into it and give it a shot!! Let's break down the riffs!

Our main riff is the riff that's played in the majority of the arrangement as it's also the chorus riff. It's relying on mainly power chords and that off-beat vibe I was mentioning earlier. Overall it's a very chill and fun riff that gets your right hand going without setting your wrist on fire as you do it haha.

Our verse riff is where it starts to get really challenging. We're arpeggiating chord shapes 1 note at a time and just doing these wacky fretting hand techniques. This will be very challenging but I promise that it gets way easier once you memorize the patterns! It's so fun to play once you get it and it sounds awesome!

and finally we just have our bridge which ties our chorus and main riff together which is some ringing-out open 9th chords. Very simple progression that sounds really cool ;)

Leads:

Style - open string pedaling, arpeggios, melody

Difficulty - 3/5

Our leads are a tad more difficult than our rhythms but it's still nothing that's terrifying. The challenging stuff is so rewarding and fun to play that you almost forget how difficult it can be. Let's break it down!

Our first melody is the main melody of the song and it's a more simple lick of the arrangement. It's just some cool melody that's happening and harmonized.

The verse riff is again very simple starting out but then when we double it with harmonies, we introduce a cool open string pedaling melody on top of it that's a bit tricky and sounds super rad!

The difficulty comes in on our Verse cont. section where we introduce this arpeggio buildup into the chorus that kind of flies all over the neck very quickly then lands into the main chorus melody which is also a bit challenging. This whole chorus section is the most challenging part of the leads so take it slow! It's insanely fun once you get it down!

For the solo, we're not doing anything TOO crazy (no 5 string sweeps this time xD) We're starting out with a pentatonic lick then resolving in a melodic tail of it. Then we do the hardest lick of the solo which is a hammer-on diminished run that's super quick and has a little tap in there too for style points. Then that's it for the solo!

I hope you guys have fun learning some of these riffs and licks and as always, feel free to hit me up on here or on my discord server if you have any questions!!

thanks so much and enjoy!
