Rising from the Ashes (Patreon)

I feel pretty terrible that we haven't been keeping better care of this Patreon page over the course of our hiatus, and now that we're breathing new life into this channel and focusing on bringing new kinds of content to you and the subscribers on YouTube, I'm going to be putting significant effort into making this patron far more worthwhile than it was before.

What that means is more frequent posts on the patreon blog between video uploads on the channel. We're gearing up to include you guys in on the process as we create new stuff. This is going to be much more feasible with the new video series that we're creating than it was with Smashified, as unlike Smashified, the projects won't be kept secret to the general public throughout the course of production. However, we'd like to keep some insight on these projects exclusive to the patrons who are so generously supporting this work.

We're also going to be refactoring the tiers, which has already begun. A lot of things are generally the same, but we're getting rid of the $3 and $15 tiers. The $15 tier was essentially only added to facilitate shipping prints, and we're currently not in a position to be doing the prints for the time being, so that one's gone for now. As for the $3 tier, I'm finding it difficult to justify having a separate tier between $1 and $5 when the marginal benefits are so small. However, we're certainly open to feedback in regards to the tiers.

As mentioned in the video, until we have everything settled for the new Patreon relaunch, patrons will not be charged for content posted to the channel. We will announce when the Patreon page is officially back up and running.

One of the big things that we're excited to launch soon is a public-facing discord server, which is part of our new initiative to build up a community of likeminded creatives that are interested in exploring the creative aspects of games. Through this discord, we're going to be thinking of ways to include the community in the ideation process and also facilitating collaboration with other creators out there for specific projects.

We're very excited about this new direction for the channel. I know for myself personally, being locked into the expectation of only creating Smashified was really starting to take a toll on my outlook as a creative, and the prospect of simply working on and sharing whatever I'm currently passionate about is extremely invigorating. I hope you're as excited as we are!

We're going to be allowing early access to the new Discord server to Patrons very soon! Things are still being figured out, and are likely to change quite a bit, but we hope you don't mind. Stay tuned for another post in the near future.
