The first half of Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite is here! I know a lot of you have been waiting a long time for this and I thank you for your patience. I want thank a patron named Quincy Battieste for sending me the Cinefex issue that proved to be my biggest resource for these final episodes. As I say in the video, I have the second half (and final installment) fully written and partially recorded, so it shouldn’t take me terribly long to complete.

I’m also nearly ready to begin recording the What I Learned From Watching episode on Monty Python and the Holy Grail that you voted for. It has been really fun to research the film and I found some wonderfully interesting resources on the production. More soon…

Thanks so much for your continued support!

How Kubrick Made 2001: A Space Odyssey - Part 6: Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite [A]

In this section, we take a look at the first half of the "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" sequence including: how Douglas Trumbull created Jupiter, scrapped ideas for how to begin the Stargate, the origins and construction of the "slit scan" effect, how Stanley Kubrick created massive cosmic events with ink, paint, and banana oil, how Bryan Loftus changed the F Stop of the layers during the Technicolor process to create the bizarre colors they used for the landscape shots, and the "City of Lights" effect that was ultimately cut from the film.

You're doing a great job. Made my day when I saw this. Huge Kubrick fan and wanted to help. Need to buck up to 5 bucks a month to get some goodies! Lol.

Thanks! I just can't believe I had never heard of that issue! I used to read Cinefex all the time when I was younger.

Love the 2001 videos! Are you seeing any Kubrick films at the IFC retrospective?

Thanks! I was planning to, but I've been feeling lousy lately. I'm hoping I'll feel better before it's over because there are a few I'd really love to see on the big screen!
