In this video, I take you through the sniper sequence and the stories behind its making. Like why the part at the low wall took a full month to film, the experimental techniques used to give impact to the climactic moment, and one of the most insane things Kubrick ever did to an actor.

Thanks so much for your continued support!

Hi Tyler, Thank you once again for realizing a new video about the making of ''Full Metal Jacket.'' I remember you teased us about the story that is about the actor Dorian Harewood. And yeah, I can't say it differently, but this is just nuts! And you explained it all very well. But since I now know how Kubrick could work with his actors, I do find that he crossed the line with this. I have all the respect for Kubrick, and I love watching films of him. But man, I find that he sometimes did go too far. Also, the story you mentioned that Kubrick called Modine ''A Cunt'' for two months is very disturbing to hear. I personally would have a hard time if he would call me that the entire time. Also, thank you for making a new bonus video. I love watching these videos. And wow, just wow, these pictures are very gory and horrific to see. I didn't know that the film would be this dark. I can't imagine now that this was the first idea of how that scene should have ended. I personally think that the film has a powerful ending. But this deleted scene is just so disturbing. And I would find it very hard and gory if it would end in this way. I would just feel disturbed of knowing now how crazy Animal Mother in reality is. But in the end, ''Full Metal Jacket'' is one of my favorite Kubrick films, Mabey my favorite? But that is not important. I find it just such a powerful and massive film. And I love both parts of the film. And as you mentioned yourself, the sniper sequence is phenomenal. Such a thrilling scene.

I’m glad you liked it! It’s certainly one thing to hear about Kubrick’s difficult methods when it involves what will ultimately appear on screen, but making Harewood do that for five days is just vindictive and totally unnecessary for the movie. It was really surprising to see how disturbing the ending could have been. I feel like I’m always sufficiently disturbed by the ending as it appears in the final film, but I guess that’s the reason he cut it. It gives you a lot more to think about when things are a bit more subtle.
