here is my timed reaction to doctor who season 1 episode 5 "world war three!"

we pick up with the slitheen, who are nasty, and we have a very bittersweet ending!

I'm glad you're still enjoying the show! The farting aliens are ... a bit cringy. Yeah. When the show came back in 2005 it was assumed it would be "for kids" as the older show was meant more for kids ... but of course the showrunner Russell T Davies knew that the show needed to grow up along with its fans. So some of these earlier episodes feel a bit more for a younger audience. Interesting thing about the zippers, btw ... so one of the issues with the old show is that there was almost no budget. It's a common joke among older DW fans that the show was so cheap, you could "see the zipper on the monster's rubber suit". I like to think that Davies put the zippers on the foreheads of these aliens as an homage to that, like an easter egg for older fans! lol To answer a few questions you had: The first season takes place roughly in 2005-6. It's 05 in the first episode, but then they come back a year later (making it 2006). Generally speaking, the "now" in any episode is meant to be whatever year the show was broadcast, unless otherwise specified. Also, Harriet Jones is not a real person. She was invented for the show. That's one of the ways that Davies likes to write foreshadowing, by having a character have knowledge of something and keep dropping hints that they know of it. This is a great example of a "Davies" style script where the Doctor keeps trying to place a name or a face, only to realize at the end it's something from the future. Keep up the great reactions!
