To answer your question, what you missed about the gloves was his one hand is metal.

The parachuting technique early in the episode is real, or at least the suits and style of flying/diving and aerodynamics are based on real life practices. It's designed and modelled after these small, omnivorous and nocturnal gliding possums (marsupials) called "Sugar Glider". These squirrel-like animals are natively found in the eastern to mid coastlines of Australia. I used see them all the time flying and gliding at night from one tree to another, back when I spent my 20s there studying. Now I am a happy & lucky adopter of 3 of them here in the middle east at my home town. They are the cutest and sweetest things I have ever had the pleasure of raising and caring for.
