The funniest moment this season for me is when Pershing says to a mon calamari: "It's a trap!" and the guy just looks back silently. same species as Admiral akbar with the famous meme from Return of the Jedi

So... this doesnt really get explained much more in depth in the show but basically Elia kane is an imperial plant who's spying and trying to get rid of any imperial sciences or knowledge (like cloning) so the New republic cant make use of it. She has to whipe that guys mind because he has the capability to further cloning technology in the interest of the republic
