i LOVED this movie!!!!! it was so fun, emotional and intense!

In terms of timeframe Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set right after the first film so this film takes place before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and everything that's happened on Earth ever since from Antman to Civil War, Spider-Man Homecoming, Black Panther Doctor Strange etc. it doesn't really matter anyways as we're in a whole other Galaxy so you could get away with setting this movie anywhere in the Marvel timeline as nothing connects to what's happening on Earth. So one big change they made with the MCU Starlord is Peter's Dad. in the comic's Peter Dad is the Emperor of Spartax meaning Peter is royalty, Prince in line to a whole civilization. when Peter met his Dad he referred to him as a "Starlord" which is how Peter got his name in the comics. His Dad crashed on Earth and met Peters mom. She got pregnant and he went off into the stars and 9 months later Little Peter was born. As Peter was royalty a group of Aliens known as the Badoon trackes down Peter and his mom leading to her death in the 1980s when Peter was a kid. Peter discovers his father’s left-behind element gun and takes his revenge on the lizard-like invaders. Ego the Living Planet has no connection to Peter in the comics so he did not give her cancer or was the father of Peter. Ego the Living Planet himself is actually depicted as a planet with a face but for the MCU Ego took the form of whoever he wants but is still techinally a Planet like depicted in this film. The Stan Lee cameo is so important and answers so many questions lol This kind of confirms that Stan Lee is actually close friends with Uatu the Watcher, a member of an ancient race of observers charged with keeping up to the minute on all happenings on the planet Earth, The large baby face looking guys. The Watcher's also oversee's the multiverse as well so this could explain why we see Stan Lee in non Marvel MCU movies like Spider-Man or X-Men. Stan even brings up different cameos he has had in the MCU such as the delivery man we see in Civil War but does not mention his other non MCU cameos. It's a fun Marvel way of explaining how Stan Lee shows up in every film throughout time and space. The team members you see at the end with Sly Stallone are pretty much the original Guardians of the Galaxy roster with Stallone himself playing the character known as Starhawk. The original guardians existed in an alternated universe set in the far-off future of the 31st Century separate from the Earth-616 comic Guardians. But the MCU rendition they simply brought them into the modern day and the same universe as the Guardians of the Galaxy we know and love making an earlier team who formed before before our guardians. It's safe to say that these characters will show up in the sequel releasing soon but knowing Marvel they could give them a spin off. Guardians 3 is Gunn's last Marvel film as he's off to work with DC so I can't see anyone taking over from him at least for the Guardians so it's safe to say any life over stuff from this film will be covered in the sequel.

I'm not sure you caught that when Gamora grabbed Mantis by the throat and told her to tell her what she was hiding, Mantis said, "You are scared," but she wasn't sensing that, she MADE her scared with her powers so that Gamora would let go of her, like how she said earlier that she could make a stubborn person compliant.
