so we're watching Torchwood... How can it age so badly when Doctor Who ages so well??

from what i'm hearing from others, it picks up a lot in season 3. but i will be honest, it has felt really slow so far. i feel like they must just be finding their footing here in season 1

There's a lot to like in this one, even if the delivery is a bit odd at times. No rampant orgasmic aliens, but we do have a quite ridiculous gun training montage from a handsy boss, but unfortunately no HR department. They took the flirty tongue and cheek Jack from Who, and have developed him into an intense sleeze at times. Like all shows, shown development and explanations are key to an understanding of this process. So we have the possibility of an expectation of that at least. Did this one have every trope but the kitchen sink, nope there it is. 😆 Joking aside. You made an interesting and valid point about the comparatively similar aspects of a lead character. For the purposes of show lore. Immortal obviously means never dying. They do seem to have similar regenerating aspects to their characters, this is true. While the outcome of Jack's journey is to be told, so no encroachment there. But Timelords are not technically immortal. Classic Who lore imposed a limit on the number of regenerations they have. The Doctor has has had a number of lives by the time NuWho begins. Another small detail, there are things that could 'hypothetically' kill a Timelord that prevent a regeneration. I won't wander into specifics, obviously. NuWho had a number of well established years to build upon that development. But Torchwood is starting from square one with it's own particular diversifying identity. I'd say that things begin to settle into making their own mark in the second half of series 1, and then are improved upon during series 2. Then yes, by series 3. They know what their USP is and how to deliver it very effectively. IMO of course. 🙂
