hi friends!

here is my timed reaction to doctor who season 2 episode 11 "fear her"

this episode was a really heartstring-pulling one. the story of chloe and her dad was so sad, and the way that the doctor could relate to the feeling of loneliness is sad, and also makes the end a bit unsettling.

thanks for watching with me!

This is another that gets a mixed reception. I go back and forth on it myself. Aspects are a little rushed and cobbled together. Apparently this script was comparatively a late addition to the schedule to replace a story that Stephen Fry was writing, but was unable to finish and submit due to other commitments. Yep the Doctor had a family a long time ago. As another said, the first on screen companion. In fact the character Rose is named after her in a indirect way. Rose is the English translation of her real Gallifreyan name Arkytior. Not the earth name she went by however. The Doctor calling Rose Lewis is a British institution referencing another. As, at first they are masquerading as police officers investigating. A long running police drama in the UK is called Inspector Morse, in which his subordinate colleague was called Lewis. That character later went on to have his own spin off show.

I love when we get casual lore drops, like the doctor being a father. Even the casual ones about major historical events he was part of or people he knew. The doctor will just drop a bomb and move on completely. I'm in camp of people who enjoy this episode. It's by no means perfect but I have a soft spot for stories with aliens that are causing problems for non-evil reasons. Other examples we've seen is the Empty Child (just a zombie kid looking for his mom), Father's Day (neutral parasites accidentally caused by Rose), or The Girl In the Fireplace (poorly coded technology). Sometimes there is no "master plan" it's just a mess that's gotten out of hand and the doctor is drawn in to fix it. Excited to see your reaction to the finale. Have you even considered doing double features for two-part stories so we can watch them together? I know it's a lot of work though.
