I'm going to meet Annette Badland (Margaret) at Chicago Tardis Con in November! Coincidentally just found out she was going today.

This episode is so intense. It’s incredible that they took the most unserious alien species ever and plopped one in the middle of a grim ethical dilemma about the death penalty. It’s definitely interesting though. In a real world hypothetical, you might say some hideous mass murderer should die but if the gun were suddenly put in your hand and you were responsible for executing them, could you easily pull the trigger? It also asks interesting questions about complicity in wider systems and the moral implications. Lore fact: The chameleon circuit is working in the very first episode. It took place in “modern day” 1963 so the police box was an actual disguise that viewers would have been familiar with. However, the circuit breaks as they take off at the end of the first episode and when they land, the Doctor remarks on how it must have broken during their turbulent flight. Thus the iconic police box space ship was born. You gave a shoutout to the music and you are absolutely right. Murray Gold is the composer for Doctor Who for many seasons and he’s just a master. I was looking up a recent Doctor Who song by him (yes- he’s back!) and ended up flipping through his scores. A couple of them made me instantly start welling up with tears like some kind of pavlovian heartbreak response. Not just anyone can write a score that both heightens and captures an emotional moment so completely that merely hearing it later on can elicit such a visceral response. Time lord technology, such as the Tardis being alive with a heart and telepathic, is really cool and unique. It’s always fascinating when they drop details and I’ll be eager to see your reactions as they come along.
