Here's a photo taken of Grant's old Elite Squadron "Falcon" twenty years ago. Elite squadrons are made up of exorcists who have exceptional service records, and often, but not always, rare weapon affinities.

Front row, left to right: Manuel Hernandez (deceased, killed in action), Victor Hung (currently a General in the Northern Division), Sally Thresher (deceased, killed in action)

Middle row, left to right: Abigail Teodoro (currently Captain in the Academy Division), Grant Morrisey (currently First Sergeant in the Academy Division)

Last row, left to right: Len (deceased), Zuka (deceased), Bren (deceased), Grimm, Mira (deceased)

Seeing the various shades the demons have just. Blows my mind. So cool!

Huh. Three humans alive. One demon alive. This is ... not a happy ratio. How do demons die without their humans? Is the human who loses their demon stuck without one, or is it a choice to try for another?

Three humans alive :) In this particular case, it's promotion to higher ranks that causes an exorcist to break ties with their demon since they're no longer actively fighting in the field and have moved on to leadership roles. The exorcist branch is a cold and seemingly morally-bankrupt one, because an unpaired demon is an un-needed demon, and you can guess what happens to them after that. Grimm is only alive today because Grant is still paired with him, but we'll get to why later!
