So in IRL there is a certain generation of mixed ethnicity people who were made aware of loyalty and constantly scrutinized - are you one of us or one of them. Some of us would code switch and strive for passing privilege by totally submerging and I dare say denying one half of our backgrounds. And rather like internalized homophobia it tends to not work out well. Which is why I really appreciate the Eveline character, and the way you wrote the initial encounter between her and Al. Not only were they sparring about Eveline’s mixed background, she was using her own part-demon abilities to read Al as if she was higher and he was tossing it right back at her. Nicely done.

I'm trying to remember -- has it been established that there's a correlation between the exorcist's personality and that of the demon they attract, or is it more a case of whoever goes for the bait first? 'Cause if it's the former, I can imagine a whole group of demons standing around, going "awww, she's too sweet ... I just can't."
