The Cutting Room Floor (Patreon)

Now that Chapter 3 is officially done (woo!!), I thought it could be fun to look back in the last bit of the script where scenes were revised! Even though the script is fully written out, there's still little notes in the margins that have alternate ideas, or there's bits I feel don't work anymore when I finally get to drawing the scene, so they get scrapped. Onward!

 ★ This scene with Peta and Iblin!

 ★ The scene where Al plasters Ethan on the sink actually did go on to include tying him down on the bed and the two having a wild time, but 1) it would've dragged the scene out too long just for the sake of more smut and 2) it was funnier to leave readers with the shot of Al giving Ethan that Look

 ★ In the scene where Malthus appears and gives Al half his Sight, I had originally written in the margins a note that said "maybe this should be gory instead? with an actual exchange of an eye for an eye???", but decided early on that I wanted to reveal how unhinged Malthus was over the course of the ballroom scene, and starting out with something so violent kind of lessened the impact later. But even more important than that, it was just a ridiculous idea that doesn't fit at all within the mythos of their world - demon bodies aren't made from parts you can swap between similar makes and models like they were cars, haha

 ★ Malthus' villainous monologue-ing went on much longer in the script, but I clipped a lot of it out (notably a part about how Malthus had spied on Al, via cat, paying the Merchant with demon's lives) because I thought all that extra dialogue was unnecessary - we didn't need to see ALL his grievances listed out to understand how deeply he felt Al had betrayed his family!

 ★ Originally, I had Ethan slap Al across the face in an effort to pull him out of his sobbing, near hysterical state - but when I got to drawing that page I knew it wasn't in Ethan's character to react that way, even if he were scared. Gentle-hearted Ethan won out in the end ヾ(｡﹏｡)ﾉﾞ

 ★ Originally Ethan was buck naked when he leaped out of bed to take care of Al, but dang it I already get readers giggling at Malthus' nudity when it's supposed to be a serious scene and I really didn't want the distraction for this final scene, so I compromised and we got his tiny booty shorts instead, lol

I'm working on some Patreon-only art for the last week of June for you, then I'm going to take a few days and let my arm have a break. But then it's back to work, with new content for Patreon all through July and getting Chapter 4 prepped and in the buffer!  (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧
