I'm sure this is old news to most of you by now, but I wanted to address it here just in case you weren't aware of their twitter thread or did not receive an email from Patreon.

The talk around the water cooler is Patreon had recently moved their payment processing overseas, which sent up "fraudulent charge" flags on bank accounts for folks who pledge using credit cards. I'm not a financial security guru and I don't know if that's the whole story, but if a known payment processor that used to be in the United States is now suddenly charging credit cards from somewhere Not the United States, I can see why a bank would raise the alarm and stop the charge from going through.

If you use Paypal you likely weren't affected, but if you used a credit card and saw you were declined, Patreon advises doing one of the following:

★ Contact your bank to confirm that the charge is not fraud

★ Update your payment method to a new card

★ Use Paypal instead

I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused any of my patrons, and I hope this is a hiccup we won't be seeing again!  ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

I suspect this is a result of their abouut-face in December when they tried to dump trsnaction fees on patrons. After rescinding that, I guess they went looking for other ways to cut transaction costs.

Was just looking through posts and came across this, which made me laugh rly hard because this is why my card got permanently deactivated. Problem solved since then, but I can't believe I didn't realize it until just now 😂
