My take on the flashback scenes at the end are that they are there to draw parallels with Thorfinn. (I mean they all risked so much!) Also that they all had a big impact on him and are a part of his own journey. Such a great season and the way it took the themes from season one and transformed them was beautiful. I cried multiple times, once while I was eating lunch all alone which was a bit weird haha.

I think the flashbacks are to show how the characters on the show started their own quests, but I don't think they're going to show those stories next season. Or they might, but only where the flashbacks highlight Thorfinn's journey.

Just my thought's on season 1 of Vinland Saga before I start season 2. I would've started season 2 earlier, but once I finished season 1, I went back and watched it again. I wanted to go back to the beginning, back to when Thorfinn was just a boy, just playing at being a Warrior in the snow before all this began. I was hooked from episode 1 when Leif is telling Thorfinn and the others the story of how he found Vinland, I absolutely love the music in the series. I love in episode 3 when Thorfinn sneaks aboard his father's ship, I love it when he see's the sea for the first time and you hear that music playing in the background, it's a beautiful scene. That scene when Thors was spanking Thorfinn, it's like Outlander all over again. What is it with you and spanking Imon. It was really sad in episode 5 when Thorfinn was in the forest, cold, hungry and all alone. Things changed that night when he had to kill that wolf, I love it when he starts to train and learns how to hunt, to survive. Sadly he loses to Askeladd again and is told to prove himself on the battlefield and he'll be rewarded with another deul. The way Askeladd holds that over him. The way Thorfinn screamed in episode 6 when he took his first life, since then he's killed a lot of people, Thors didn't want any of this for him. That scene in episode 6 when Askeladd asks Thorfinn to be his spy for a while, that shot of him alone in the forest fighting those men, I keep coming back to that scene. Then in episode 8 after Thorfinn loses his duel to Askeladd and he's sitting on the ship and he sees his father, I love the part when Thors places his hand on Thorfinn's head and you see him as a little boy, he says to Thorfinn "There, there, crybaby caterpillar." It's so sad seeing him as that happy little boy to now filled with so much rage. When he's talking to that slave girl and he says "Far to the west and beyond the sea is a land called Vinland. It is a warm plentiful place, so far that slave traders and the flames of war cannot reach it. There, no one would pursue you." And she asks him "Does such a place truly exist?" I hope it does, I hope Thorfinn finds it someday. I though episode 14 was a sad one, with that girl Anne, the one who saw her whole village slaughtered. Even before that she was scared that she would go to hell because she stole that ring. She thought she would be the only one in her family who wouldn't go to Heaven when she died. What she said "Bad children like me will surely go to Hell on Judgment Day." It's so sad the way she felt, to be raised in fear like that, and now she's left all alone in the world. Later we see her talking to God, looking up into the night sky, it kinda looks like a question mark, which makes sense, we do question if God is real or not, I know I do, is he listing, does he hear us, I really wish I knew. I loved in episode 21 when Leif finally finds Thorfinn, 11 years he's been searching for him, what he said "He looks exhausted. For a young boy like him to grow up on the battlefield, means he's undoubtedly been through hell." He has been, to see his father killed, to grieve the loss of him all alone, with no one there to comfort him, to tell him everything's going to be OK. Leif sees it, he says "What a tragic sight. What has that cheerful boy become." This series has a lot of sad moments, just like life itself. That scene at the end of episode 21 with Askeladd and Bjorn, when he says to Askeladd "Is it not lonely? Rejecting everyone and everything the way you do?" Then as he's dying he says "Askeladd, I wanted to be your friend." Then Askeladd says "Yes Bjorn. You were... my one and only true friend." Then the music plays, I love this series so much. I loved episode 22 when Askeladd tells Thorfinn his story, he's also had a hard life, as far back as he can remember he worked as a blacksmith in the stables, always covered in soot and ash, Askeladd "Covered in Ash" It was sad the way his mother was treated when she became sick, just left abandoned with no one to care for her but her only son. I love the story she would always tell him, the story of Artorius, of how one day he would return to free her from sickness and slavery. It was sad in episode 23 when Thorfinn was arrested, I'm glad Leif came to visit him, he tells him how he remembers their lives like it was yesterday. The crackling hearth, the smell of hearty stew, Thors, Helga, Ylva, and the way Thorfinn would smile as a child. I love it when he tells him the story "Far to the west, beyond the sea there is a new land where the fruit is plentiful and waves of green grass ripple across the hills and meadows. This is Vinland Thorfinn, Vinland!" He's tells him that if Thors was still alive he would have wanted to find this place. "A place without slavery and war, where everyone can live in peace in a rich abundant land." I wish Thorfinn had left with Leif that day. Episode 24 was a shock, Thorfinn had spent 11 years of his life trying to avenge his father's death, now with Askeladd gone I don't know what's next for him, he must feel so lost. When Askeladd is dying and Thorfinn is screaming at him "You got yourself stabbed in the heart, you moron!" Then with his dying breath Askeladd asks Thorfinn "How do you intend to live. From now into the future, long after I've died, how do you intend to live, Thorfinn? You haven't even thought that far ahead. Stop this nonsense and just move on. Doing this forever will only keep you stuck in this worthless place. Go far, far away. Go even beyond the land where Thors went, son of Thors. That is your true fight. Become a true Warrior... son of Thors." I want to thank you Imon, without you I would never have found this series, I really love this story. Thank you. <3
