I haven't read the manga, but I'm fairly certain there are greater fears amongst humans than guns, like falling, the dark, death, and outer space. More primal, innate fears we are born with.

I feel like this show is one of the few shows that could help open someone up to trying out Monogatari. It's not as serious as this show, but it is just as mature if not more so (adult jokes yes but also very deep conversations that are more abstract in nature), plus it's targeted for a similar audience as this show, just less mainstream since it's more slice of life than a shonen.
