Storytelling in Arcane is amazing, every small detail create immersion and tells a story - at the ending scene when Jinx lays on the bridge straps on her neck and dirt create words Vi, vi. I strongly suggest you to watch arcane bridging the rift, as a reaction or just for yourself, it is really inspiring.

Dune

Given the right circumstances anybody can rise up to the occasion and ekko did just that. That whole scene with him and jinx just shows that it's hard to truly hate someone especially if you know them personally.

"... And Marcus was the only one I really hated." Marcus' motive: *Figurative (but also quite literal) gun to his daughter's head* I feel so bad for Marcus. People always seem to forget that he's in an impossible situation.

DYLAN

what ? he literally put himself in that situation in the first place lmao... it's sad that his daughter got caught into that mess but he is ENTIRELY responsible for starting it in the first place. What he got is literally karma

Sharlaquine

He didn't put himself in that situation. Silco put him in that situation. Discounting the first three episodes, Marcus didn't do anything that wasn't under direct duress from Silco. It's fine to not like Marcus -- he's very clearly set up to be unlikable -- but Silco is ultimately the one responsible for everything Marcus did in the the second and third acts.

Haughtbreaker Nic

But also without Marcus, Silco would not have the reach he did. Marcus agreed to the first deal with Silco before Silco even had that much power. He didn't have a daughter then. Marcus, as Sherrif, gave Silco access to exports and helped him increase his wealth and power. And you can't just ignore the first 3 episodes. That sets up the motive for every character, including Marcus who treats all undercity as scum. Marcus's daughter had no bigger gun to her head than the 4 "sumprats" he so wanted to throw in prison. Vander was only protecting his kids when Marcus basically got him killed for some gold. Silco actually loves Jinx and wants to protect her. Caring about what happens to your child isn't heroic and doesn't make someone a good person. It's literally the bare minimum and besides those moments where he cares about his kid, Marcus isn't shown to have one redeeming quality.

"discounting the first three episodes" lol ye you can say the same about any awful person if you ignore the choices they made. There's always a choice, like Viktor said.

Sharlaquine

I don't ignore the first three episodes; I just separate them from his actions later because the power dynamic shifts dramatically after the time skip.

No Consequence

What exactly did Marcus do before Episode 4 that was so terrible? He was an asshole to be sure, but all he does is accept information from Silco to use to find the criminals that bombed a building. Silco just used that to his advantage - it wasn't part of the original plan, "What the hell have you done? This wasn't the deal!" - and at that moment Marcus was in too deep.
