afrocentric distortion

Upon rewatching the show, Marc and Steven seem to be co-hosts (they are the ones who front the most). For Steven to not know he has DID and then deny there are other alters in his head while repressing them and not letting them front is typical host behavior. Even with the amnesia, DID is a disorder that comes with extreme masking so most people who have it are in a lot of denial that they are a system/there are other people who might be able to have control of the body. I feel like this episode represents that from Steven's perspective pretty well! And on your question about how Layla wouldn't know that he has the disorder; I was dating my boyfriend for almost 3 years before either of us realized that he had recurrent amnesia and he was eventually diagnosed with DID. As I said before, it's a very covert disorder, many people have met systems and don't even know it.

Dune

Reminds of a scene from ranking of kings (an anime you might like about a handicapped main character) where one character pointed out a guy who was deaf and blind and asked a boy what would you do if you were in his position? The boy said he'd probably kill himself immediately and then the guy said something like oh that guy must be one of the strongest people then huh? That's not exactly how it went but you get the idea lol people look at people who have something wrong with them with such disdain but truthfully if most people were put in that situation themselves they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
