The range of King Crimson is infinite, the only "range" of it is how close he can move King Crimson to his enemy during the 10 second time period. I think it's supposed to be an explanation for those moments where you get up to go to a room, you get there and you completely forget what you went there for. If you want a good explanation of it and why they're so terrified of it, it's a causality stand. King Crimson erases cause and keeps the effect, it erases itself and its user from the world for a limited time. Couple that with his apparent ability to perceive the future and you have a stand that can hard counter pretty much anything. If DIO or Jotaro were to fight it they would probably die, as he would have the premonition of the damage he took during a time stop, then simply erase himself from it even if he didn't know what caused the damage, position himself and counter once time "resumed" and they had no time to react.

Your explanation is spot on! The only caveat is King Crimson doesn't erase itself. It deletes the global time. The Boss's time frame remains normal. That is why he can see and react to what happens in the void. It's similar to Dio's frozen time where he stops time in the world but he himself is unaffected.

Stands tend to be inversely as powerful as their users. The more flaws present in the user, the more powerful the stand is allowed to be. As good examples, Okuyasu, the lovable idiot, has an incredibly powerful stand that is nerfed by his own stupidity. Joseph Joestar, hamon user and master stategist, conversely gets a stand that isn't all that powerful on its own. So, what if there were a user with serious, debilitating flaws? A person whose only weakness WAS their identity. Either the stand has weaknesses to exploit, or the user does. What if all the exploitable weaknesses were offloaded onto the user? This type of stand user would be invulnerable, but only so long as no one ever discovered the user.
