The beginning definitely happened.

This is one of the principal conflicts in ethics philosophy. Especially in recent years, more philosophers have adopted the quarantine mentality with ethics and criminality. The idea is that rather than trying to categorize people on a scale of morality, we instead view personality defects and criminal behaviors as diseases. If a plague breaks out, and someone gets sick, we quarantine them for the good of the society, and possibly for the good of the person. We don't think that they're a terrible person or that they're evil or fundamentally flawed, we just understand that they have a dangerous attribute that needs to be quarantines. We can treat criminals the same way. The ultimate goal of ethics should be to make the world a better place, and people can debate on who for. Should it be better for individuals, for a country, for the most people possible, for the most life possible, for a religion, for the planet itself? But the point of it is always improving people and the world. If you're stuck in a capsule where you're arguing over if this person is "good" or "bad" because of this trauma or that bad action, then regardless of how the argument goes, what is actually being done to help anyone? To make anything better? Does calling them "evil" make their victims less victimized? "good" and "bad" are distractions from looking for logical solutions to given problems to improve the lives of people. And yeah, sometimes what's best for the most people is to cut off social ties to someone who is too problematic, to quarantine that person who has the illness of these toxic traits for one reason or another.

Every time I have really grown as a person it was the result of me really talking to myself about my troubles. I talk to myself all the time just going over this and that but there are a lot of lies in that. It can be scary seeing your true self and having an honest conversation.

The last scene of the episode always makes me tear up, I just wanna hug child bojack and tell him everything will be okay

Love this episode and reaction! I think Bojack learned about truely being responsible and holding yourself accountable. Even after admitting you need to believe in a higher power he still sees now he needs to truly live an honest and better life. I'll never hate Bojack either personally. Though if i knew someone just like him irl it might be almost impossible to not hate him.

Its interesting to note that the record player gets clearer after bojack drinks at the end

LA has a ton of wealth disparity so that def isnt what normal parties look like lol most of us just smoke at each other's apt or the beach (can confirm fun), do coke and go to the club (no idea what this is like but its v popular lol), or do wholesome activities like skate, eat, see comedy shows, etc (also v fun)

Reyna Bates Jr

always hits me when he curls up next to his mom at the end. Damn this show

I think we can all understand the hate for bojack and it's because of exactly what imon said. That he basically gets away with it. Suffers no real consequences so he never truly has to address his issues. When he got caught by charlotte with her daughter, causing sarah lynn to od, ruining todds thing way early on in the show where he got character actress margot martindale to do all that shit. Nothing really happened to him and so it's never truly hit him like damn I'm shitty person I have to change. His excuse for so long was that he had a terrible childhood and terrible parents but so many people have that same experience! Even worse actually. Horrible parents, bullied, degraded and possibly even molested but not all of these people just go out and push that anger, sadness and hate they feel on to other people because then they would be just as bad as the people who hurt them. Also I don't know if it's because of the fame or what but bojack just seems to always be oblivious to the feelings and going ons of others. I will say though I'm curious to see what you two think will think of the series as a whole when its all done. Honestly I would love to listen to a podcast of y'all talking about bojack and the feels it gave y'all lol

That's why talking to someone else, someone who will be objective and will push you to be honest, is much more effective in getting you to look at those parts you don't want to see. It's just too bad that that's so expensive
