Just to clarify a couple of things for you: 1) In episode 5, Mustang briefly explained the Ishvalan War. Amestris annexed Ishval, and there remained tensions between the Ishvalans and Amestrians. Then an Amestrian soldier accidentally shot an Ishvalan child, and the Ishvalans revolted. After 7 years of fighting, the order came down to exterminate the Ishvalans. 2) Kimblee, the Crimson Alchemist, is still in jail. Issac, the Freezing Alchemist, offered to release him in episode 1 to fight together, but Kimblee refused.
