Imon, Season 6 was filmed during the height of COVID restrictions; a lot of productions didn't film at all, but The Expanse folks decided to go ahead, but the additional protocols they had to adopt to keep everyone safe increased their costs by a huge amount. They had originally planned a full 10-episode season, but they had to cut the episode count to 6 because of the extra per episode costs. Also, Season 6 had some expensive sets. I don't know how much that impacted things, but I'm sure it played a part. You'll be surprised how well they make it all fit, though. We were all skeptical at the time that they could tell a coherent story and get to the endpoint without dropping major parts of the story, but somehow they did it. I wanted to add something here -- not sure if anyone else has mentioned this to you or not -- one small consolation we got to make up a little for the short episode count was the addition of five mini episodes that were made available through Amazon Prime's "X-Ray" menu. There is an additional 5 to 7 minutes of story to accompany each of the first five Season 6 episodes, each of which delves a little deeper into some of our favorite characters. You should definitely watch these at least, and if you can include them in your reactions that would be great, too. To find this content, bring up the X-Ray (in-episode additional info) menu during any of 6x1 through 6x5, and under the Bonus Content heading, you'll find a series of videos labeled "One Ship." This is the name of the series of extra videos, and there are 5 in all, designed to be watched after the associated main episode. The One Ship episodes are available on computer versions of Prime, and some (but not all) streaming appliance versions as well. Look for them; they're well worth seeking out.

I definitely agree that even if I wish it was longer, they made it as satisfying as I think I could have hoped for! I also believe I’ve seen comments from the writers that the cost of the sets and large scale CG had a lot to do with it. They had a given budget and wanted to spend it on making the episodes look and feel how they should. And the One Ship episodes are worth the effort to watch even though they bury them a bit in the menus. Esp since Wes Chatham (Amos) directed (and wrote?) one!

Yeah, the Laconia forest set was apparently built by hand on a soundstage. They literally built the trees, attaching the branches one at a time. I can only imagine what that must've cost. And yeah, CGI stuff as well... a lot of cool space scenes this season, and those can't be cheap to make, either. Good stuff, but that kind of quality ain't free.

I also recommend the "One Ship" videos, but note they seem to only be available when watching the show on a browser. They are not available when using the Prime Video app, nor can I access them when watching the digital copies of the episode I purchased and downloaded.

Have you checked recently? I ask because it seems Amazon has been adding them to various platforms over time. They currently ARE available in the (recently released) Prime Video Windows app, the Prime Video app on my Android phone, and the Amazon Prime Video app on my iPad. So I think they've been updating their apps slowly. The only place where it still doesn't seem to be be available is on Smart TVs and streaming video devices (including Amazon's FireTV devices, which seems counterintuitive, right?). But all computers and mobile devices seem to have access to the OneShip content now, at least from what I can tell.

Well I did check my Prime Viceo app (Mac OS Sonoma 14.5) immediately before sending my comment. Did not check my iPhone or iPad, though. Will take a look later today. Thanks for pointing this out.

Oops. I stand corrected. Did a system refresh on my Mac, and the content is now visisble on the Prime Video app. Ignore my previous caution.

Thank you all for sharing all of this info! I didn’t know about the cost and set designs etc etc. and covid. It all makes much more sense. And it makes me happy to hear even though it is shorter it is still good! And I will check out the short videos as well thank you all for commenting !

When Marco says "Dawes is dead because I got tired of listening to what he had to say," at the start of the episode, the reason they killed Anderson Dawes off offscreen was the actor Jared Harris was too busy return. The writers said they were lucky to get him at all in season 1 and 2. The guy is in multiple series and movies every year.

It takes a long to find the best reactions. Sometimes i get annoyed because certain moments in the scenes dont get recognized. People dont react to them but then i find you and not only that you recognize those moments you go beyond and explain those moments and you also give your point of view with your own experience and its beautiful and your just Pure Awesomeness!!
